Amid Coronavirus, Tamil Nadu has changed the names of 1,018 places. Out of 1,018 places, the major has got a new name or spelling change. Coimbatore will be called Koyampuththoor and Ambattur is now Ambaththoor. Vellore will be known as Veeloor.

The government order says the English spelling of the place names must abide by Tamil pronunciation. In all the 37 districts, new norms have come into force.
Twitter reacts as some support the decision while a few question the time as the country is dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. Netizens also remember Yogi Adityanath’s decision more than a year back, when he changed the name of a few cities in Uttar Pradesh.
