NGO Faces Backlash For Organizing “Run For Children” Despite Air Emergency In Delhi

Despite multiple measures and multiple weeks, Delhi is yet to breathe clean air. Since Diwali, Delhiites are suffering with air emergency. The government applied odd-even, Schools are closed. Farmers of the neighboring states are fined for stubble burning. The city is shrouded by a haze of dust and smoke.

Today on the occasion of Children’s Day an NGO Prayas organized a marathon called “Run for Children” at Vinay Marg in Chanakyapuri where the number of students participated.

Delhi AQI(Air Quality Index) is around 472 falls under the “severe” category. Also, many students participating in the marathon were without a pollution mask. Payal (a parent at the event) was quoted saying,

“Children are falling ill due to toxic air. Some of the participants have also missed the marathon due to pollution today. One boy while running puked and is now taking rest.”

Twitter wasn’t impressed with the event in such air emergency conditions in the national capital. An organizing NGO had faced a severe backlash on the micro blogging site.
