Lockdown: 12-Year-Old Walks 3 Days To Reach Home, Dies Just An Hour From Home

Amid lockdown, life has become tough for all of us. The daily wagers are the ones who are suffering the most. Most of them stay away from home to earn for living and during the lockdown, they are left with no money and no food stored.

The Government, however, is trying to provide food and shelter but in a population of 1.3 billion it is a tough job. Due to lockdown, a 12-year-old girl died after making a 150-km trip on foot from Telangana to her native Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.

Jamlo Makdam, who worked in chilly fields to earn for her family, collapsed on road. She passed away just an hour away from her village. She started the journey along with 11 others who worked with her on the chili fields at a village in Telangana.

Jamlo was just 14 km away from her home when she collapsed feeling pain in her stomach on Saturday afternoon. Some members of the group said she had not been eating well. Her body was taken to her home in an ambulance.

Doctors say she was severely dehydrated and malnourished. BR Pujari, senior district medical officer said:

“Her coronavirus tests came out negative. She may have suffered electrolyte imbalance in her body too.”

The state government has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation for the girl’s family.

COVID-19 has badly affected the lives entire world. India is in 40 days lockdown till May 3rd and the cases are still on the rise. The number of cases in the country rose above 18,000 and deaths reported nearly 600. Also, more than 3200 are recovered.
