From Delhi Walking To Home A Delivery Boy Dies After Walking 200 Kms On Highway

Amid countrywide lockdown, due to the novel coronavirus, people working in different cities are walking towards home as there is no means of transportation available nationwide. People in thousands of numbers have started to walk from Delhi as they are not left with shelter and food.

As everything is closed except essential service these people are not left with a choice. A  38-Year-Old man walked over 200 km from Delhi to reach his home in Madhya Pradesh after the lockdown was announced died on the way.

The man died is identified as Ranveer Singh who works as a delivery agent for a restaurant in Delhi. He was among the thousands of migrants who are desperately trying to reach their home as they are left with no shelter, food, money, and jobs.

All of them are covering the journey of hundreds of kilometers on foot. This all happened after transportation including trains, buses stopped in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The police said that the victim collapsed on National Highway-2 after he complained with his fellow of chest pain. A local hardware store owner Sanjay Gupta rushed to the victim and offered him tea and biscuit. But soon, Ranveer Singh had a heart attack and died. The man was about 80 km away from his village.

Arvind Kumar, Sikandra station house officer (SHO) said:

“Gupta made the victim lie down on a carpet and offered him tea and biscuit. The victim complained about chest pain and also called his brother-in-law Arvind Singh over phone to share his health condition.”

“At around 6.30 pm, the victim passed away and local police was informed.  On the entire NH-2 stretch, UP policemen are present with food packets and water for such persons but Ranveer’s death is unfortunate.”

Policemen sent the victim body for postmortem.

There are more than thousands of daily wagers on the road struggling to reach their home. The government has also given instructions to the state government either to arrange shelters or help them reaching there home.

The deadly virus has infected more 6,50,000 worldwide and more than 30,000 died. In India too, the coronavirus is spreading and more than 1,000 people are infected and 27 lost the battle.
