Politics is one of those things in India where everyone needs to contribute. The politicians some times comes up with very bizarre tactics where we can’t decide how to react. A bizarre incident where an MLA Jayanta Naskar builds his own statue.
A sitting MLA from West Bengal Jayanta Naskar of Trinamool Congress has got his own statues built so that people remember him after his death. The 71-year-old, 2 time MLA from Gosaba is fearing that he could be killed.
TMC MLA has hired a sculptor three years ago from Kumartuli to craft life-size statues made of fiberglass and a clay bust.
Every morning, Trinamool Congress MLA Jayanta Naskar spends a good amount of time washing his own statues. The MLA said that he neither trusts his supporters nor his relatives that they would get his statue made after his death.
The politician is guided by 11 policemen. Looking at the past, the MLA was attacked at least two times by miscreants but he managed to escape every time. For the last three years, his security is increased looking at the threat.
The 71-Year-Old MLA Jayanta Naskar said:
“We are politicians. We have many enemies. When we will die, nobody knows. I can die any day. After my death, my relatives may not install my statues. So, I decided that I will get my own statues made.”
“After a long search at Kumartuli (the hub of idol makers) in Kolkata, I finally found one. I visited Kumartuli at least seven times in two months so that the statue maker could use me as a model for the statues.”
“The artist told me that if I was physically present there, the statues will look more accurate. After three long months, the artist made a clay statue of me. From that clay statue, three fiber statues were made.”
However, the MLA has no plans to install the statues till he is alive. But, he wishes that after his death his statues should be installed by his relatives or his friends.
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister too had done the same. Mayawati has installed not only his statues but also statues of Elephant which is her party symbol and wasted crores of public money.
