‘I Want To Sell My Kidney’, Kashmiri Man Puts Out Ad In Newspaper To Sell Kidney To Clear Debt Of ₹91 Lakh

A Kashmir man unable to repay his loan worth ₹91 lakh, a man from Kulgam took the decision of selling his own kidney. The man published an advertisement for the sale of his kidney in a Srinagar-based Kashmir Reader newspaper.

The man was identified as Sabzar Ahmad Khan is a resident of Nussu village in Qazigund of Kulgam district. The 28-year-old man works as a car dealer.

‘I want to sell my kidney because I have lost everything in business.’
The advertisement given by Khan read, “I want to sell my kidney because I have lost everything in business but I am still indebted to pay 90 lakh rupees. I request anyone in need of a kidney to contact me.”

Khan, who also works as a government-registered contractor, suffered severe losses after two lockdowns were imposed in Kashmir. The first lockdown was imposed after the abrogation of Article 370 and the second was imposed in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the India Times reported.

The advertisement mentioned that Khan lost everything and was left with no money to pay off the debts. Khan, who is the sole bread-winner of his family, said that he owes Rs 61 lakh to the bank and Rs 30 lakh to people.

Khan said that he had also informed his family of his decision to sell his kidney. The man also said that his younger brother has been working as a laborer to make both ends meet. The man said that he received a few calls from buyers after the advertisement was posted.

The 28-year-old man said that one of the buyers offered to pay Rs 20 lakh and another person offered to pay Rs 25 lakh. He, however, took the decision of not agreeing to the offer. Khan said, “I will be holding further discussions with the parties to get the best offer.”
