Man Charged ₹128Cr Electricity Bill For Using Fan And Light In Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur

An elderly resident in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh has received an electricity bill of over ₹128 crore. The electricity department has removed the connection from his house and asked the man to pay the exorbitant bill to restore electricity to his home.

The resident of Chamri village, Shamim said that he approached the electric department for correction, multiple times, but they are not ready to listen and are asking him to pay down the entire amount. The bill generated is ₹128,45,95,444 for a home connection of 2 kilowatts.

Shamim while talking to ANI told:

“No one listens to our pleas, how will we submit that amount? When we went to complain about it, we were told that they won’t resume our electricity connection unless we pay the bill.”

Shamim said that an average monthly bill of only about ₹ 700 or ₹800. He even accused the electricity department of handing him over the bill of the entire city.

­“We only use fan and light. How can the amount be so high? We are poor. How we will pay such a large amount” questioned Shamim’s wife Khairu Nisha, reported NDTV

After the news spread out, the electricity department has ignored the entire issue and called it a technical fault. And said this isn’t a big issue and it is a system fault. Engineer Ram Sharan assured that the department will rectify the bill once it is sent back to them.
