Yesterday, Mumbai High Court dismissed 4 petitions and refused to stop the cutting down of 3600 trees in Aarey Forest for the Mumbai Metro. Around 2,646 trees – 2,185 to be cut and 461 to be transplanted for the Metro III car shed.
As soon as the Court ruled in favour of the Government, the authorities started the process to cut down the trees in the Aarey Forest.
Following the court order, authorities were quick to take action but, this didn’t go unnoticed. Mumbaikars started to gather on the spot to protest against cutting down of trees in Aarey Forest. Roads lead to Aarey are also blocked.
The Government has arrested several people including politicians who were protesting against the cutting down of trees and also imposed section 144 in the area.

Being ethical means the Maharashtra govt allow the #SupremeCourt to give a final ruling on the #AareyForest ! But this is the rule of @narendramodi /RSS , so cut down the #Aarey trees in the middle of the night, making it impossible for birds & animals to escape#AareyForest
