In Japan, a quarter of Japanese companies require their employees to work 80 hours of overtime in a month. To address this overwork culture, the company came up with an experiment. In August, they gave 2,300 employees, 3 days weekend for 5 weeks straight. The hope behind it was employees on Monday return feeling more refreshed.

Even with 3 days weekend, 40% improvement in productivity, Microsoft Japan announced.

Not only productivity improved. The employee used 23.1% less electricity also took 25% fewer leaves during the month. And the 92 % employees said they like 4-day work culture. Now the company plans to implement it again in the near future.
