Chak Ashmuji village of Kulgam tehsil was all in tears as they bid farewell to brave-heart Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani. Six terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir whereas Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani was the one soldier India lost.
An Indian soldier was once a terrorist who was involved in the freedom of Kashmir (‘jihad’ for Kashmir) in the ’90s. Later he surrendered and joined the army in 2004 and started his career with 162 battalions of the Territorial Army. In August 2007, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani was awarded the Sena Medal for the bravery and the Sena Medal from once in August this year on the eve of Independence Day.
Wani was 38 years old who left behind his wife and two children. The age of children is 20 and 18 years. Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani got a 21-gun salute on Monday. Wrapped in tricolour, the body of the decorated soldier was taken to his native village Ashmuji in Kulgam and handed over to family members. After the customs, the body was buried in the nearby graveyard.

In the encounter which took place on Sunday, six terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed. Wani was shot and injured during the anti-terror operation. First aid was provided at the spot. He then later rushed to the hospital where he could not survive his injuries.
