Dissident Leaders From Manipur Declare Independence From India, Seek Recognition From The UN

Two Manipuri leaders who claimed to represent King Leishemba Sanajaoba announced independence from India and the launch of the Manipur Government in exile in London.

Yamben Biren, who claims to be the Chief Minister of Manipur State Council and Minister of External Affairs and Defence of Manipur State Council Narengbam were interacting with international media. They said they are speaking on behalf of the Maharaja of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba.

The King told them to formally launch the exiled government, “the Manipur State Council” which will be based in London.

Both of them produced the document showing they have already got mental asylum in the United Kindom.

“We believe that now is the right time to make public the Independent Government of Manipur. As we are infront of the international community and seek recognition. We call on all the Governments of the sovereign states of the members of the United Nations for their recognition of the de jure and exile Government of the Manipur from today onwards.”

“The three million Manipuri people want recognition as one of the Precious Native Nations. Our attempts to engage with the Indian government were met with hate and hostilities.”

The leaders produced the document authorized by the King of Manipur dated March 15, 2013, to solve the political problems of the State of Manipur.
