Delhi Government Increased 70% Tax On Liquor As Special Corona Fee

Yesterday marked the starting of phase 3 of lockdown which will go on till May 17th. However, the government has given various relaxations by dividing the country in the green, orange and red zone.

Out of all the relaxations that the government gave, the major one was to permit the opening of liquor stores. And yesterday’s rush approves it. There were huge queues in various parts of the country and no social distancing was followed.

Looking at the sale of liquor, the Delhi government has decided to add a “special corona fee” of 70% of the MRP on all categories of liquor that will be sold in the city from Tuesday.

The simple maths for this increase is the liquor bottle which costs ₹1,000 will now cost ₹1,700.  This step will boost the government’s revenue. Arvind Kejriwal also warned the people that if social distancing is not followed, he might shut down the shops.
