India now has taken one more step in blocking China’s products and promoting Make in India and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India). The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has made mandatory for all the sellers to mention the ‘country of origin’ on products they sell through the platform.
Nirmala Sitaraman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs today posted a tweet and provided the information.
Information about Country of Origin by the sellers made mandatory on GeM. #MakeInIndia #AtmaNirbharBharat. https://t.co/pCNnRcnvQD

Also, the seller who has uploaded the products before the introduction of the feature are asked to update the Country of Origin. Failing to do so their products shall be removed from GeM, warning attached.
With this new feature, now, the Country of Origin as well as the local content percentage will be visible in the marketplace for all items.
The platform allows users to filter the product based on the country of origin. And also with a high percentage of local content. Buyers can choose to buy only those products that meet the minimum 50% local content criteria.
Brilliant move by Govt of India, it makes mandatory that all products will have the country of origin on them.

Today, Govt made it mandatory for sellers to mention the country of origin for selling products on Govt e-Marketplace.
Similar provision needs to be made for Private e-Marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal etc. so that people can reject Chinese goods if they want to.

Brilliant move. We @CAITIndia hope that the Govt will soon make it mandatory for all Pvt Ecomm players to display “country of origin” on their websites. The consumers have the right to decide before buying which country product they wish to buy.#BoycottChineseProducts @praveendel
