Rapido is the bike taxi company, which provides door to door bike services. In Bengaluru, two riders are attacked and robbed within two-hours in the night time. Two back to back incidents have left bike taxi workers in fear.
The first incident took place at 12:30 Am. After the rider, Dhaneshwar Bey got a ride alert near Kudlu Gate off Hosur Road. After he reaches the location three man threatened him with a knife and took his belongings which include two mobile phones, a wallet containing cash of ₹1200, and a power bank.
An officer from Parappana Agrahara police station told Indian Express
“The area was poorly lit when three men robbed him after stabbing the Rapido driver on the left side of his neck. He was then abducted on the same vehicle after the gang robbed his purse, mobile phone and power bank. He was then taken to an isolated place where he was punched and was forced to give away details of his ATM card and the entire amount he had in his Google Pay account.”
However, the victim escaped and ran to the police patrolling. After narrating the incident police, took him to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. A case under section IPC 397 is registered.
In another incident at 2:45 am. A Rapido driver Amal Singh (27) was attacked and robbed in a similar manner by three-man. At Kudlu where his personal belongings like two mobile phones, wallet with debit and credit cards, and his jacket were taken away.
The first incident took place at Hosur Road. And the other one which was a copy of the first one took place at Parappana Agrahara two hours later. The officers investigating the Rapido case believe that both the crime are committed by the same trio, according to the primary evidence.
Rapido Bike Taxi company spokesperson said:
“We will provide legal assistance to the captains (rider) who got injured. We are also assisting police with information recorded about the customers to help find them.”
