A BSF Constable Refuses ₹11 Lakh Dowry At His Wedding, Instead Took ₹11 & A Coconut As Token

Giving and Receiving Dowry is still a common practice in India’s rural area. The Government had strict laws against the issue but there are families who demand it when it comes to there weddings.

A BSF constable in Jaipur in his own wedding refused Dowry of ₹11 lakh in the town of Amba Bari. Instead, he accepted ₹11 and coconut from the bride’s father.

After the constable rejected the dowry, the father of the bride mentioned,

“I was surprised and initially thought that the boyfriend’s family wanted more money or they were not happy with the arrangements. Later, we realized that he and his family were totally against the money offered to them.”

BSF constable Jitendra Singh by denying the dowry set an example against the evil custom of a decades-old tradition.

Jitendra Singh, when contacted said:

 “The day I was told that my wife-to-be had done LLB and LLM and is also pursuing a PhD, I thought she is good enough for me and my family. That day, I made up my mind to not take any dowry and my family thought we will declare this decision to my in-laws on the wedding day itself.”
