With the help of technology and timely action, the life of the woman is saved.
Sabita was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Sabita, who delivered a baby through the caesarian section on October 13th was in desperate need of blood due to her condition deteriorated rapidly due to excessive blood loss.
Her blood group was found to be ‘Bombay A+ve’ — an extremely rare blood group. Her family members contacted the various blood bank to arrange the rare blood type but failed. After searching several places a blood bank doctor came to know about Dilip, who has same rare group.
The doctor immediately contacted Dilip and narrated the situation and seeking his help to save the patient’s life. On receiving the call, Dilip who lives in Bhubneshwar traveled over 500 km to Berhampur to donate the blood to the woman.
While the four most common blood groups are A, B, AB and O, the ‘Bombay A+ve’ comes under rarest of rare group bracket for its chances of presence. The rare blood group was first discovered by Dr. YM Bhende in 1952.
Dilip has donated blood several times ever since he came to know about the rarity of his blood group. “I really feel happy about saving someone’s life by donating blood,” he was quoted as saying by Orissa Post.
