The people of The No. 2 Kataligaon in Assam’s Baksa district witness a unique wedding reception where guest instead of normal items as gifts turned up with unusual items as a gift for the couple.

Couple requested all the guest to bring in the old book and clothes as a gift which will be distributed for those in need. And everyone was happy to contribute to the noble cause.

The wedding reception was of Bhupen Rabha and Babita Boro with a message on the invitation card read ‘Service to Mankind.’

According to news18 “When we talk about marriage, it is usually about people, gifts and food. I thought of using this moment as an opportunity. Presuming that around 3,000 people from far and near would be attending my wedding, I put out a message in the invitation card. People can take back an example from our village, an awareness message I intended to spread,” said Rabha.

All the clothes received in the form of gift at the wedding will now be distributed to the needy by the village society. Books received will be stacked at an open library. Groom believes this type of steps in the wedding will also encourage other members to do the initiative which will end up in helping out the needy.

The guests were asked to choose from saplings of deodar, cedar and devadaru as a return gifts.

New18 reports: “This was sponsored by the Assam’s forest department in order to spread the message of greener earth and the need for planting more trees. The local ranger of Batabari helped us immensely. Those who brought clothes and books got a sapling each,” said Rabha.
