As Raksha Bandhan approaches, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) posted a leather-free campaign post. That particular post come under fire from Indian social media. The clear reason is a lack of connection between leather and the festival.
🐮 This Raksha Bandhan, protect cows too. 🐮#GoLeatherFree #NotOursToWear #VeganLeather #RakshaBandhan

To counter the PETA’s save cow campaign, Twitterati came up with #BakraLivesMatter. This became the top trend on Twitter. After continuous mocking by the users on the site, underfire PETA responded saying:
“We didn’t say rakhis are made of leather. Raksha Bandhan is a good day to extend protection to cows who are our sisters under the skin by taking a pledge to go leather-free, for life.”
We didn’t say rakhis are made of leather. We said Raksha Bandhan is a good day to extend protection to cows who are our sisters under the skin by taking a pledge to go leather-free, for life. That’s a message all kind people can get behind. https://t.co/qoVkRQe5DT

Ramzan, Bakrid and Christmas are much better and suitable days to extend your message of protecting cows, as the cows are slaughter ed on these days.

PETA’s were underfire badly as some users were not ready to allow PETA to get off the hook. The users demanded the organization to post the tweet about Goat when the Eid arrives. On Eid, an uncountable number of Goats are killed.
Here is the sharp reaction of Netizens.
PETA is talking about cow protection so that nobody calls them hypocrite as they usually speaks for cats and dogs but not for cow. And they are doing so on a Hindu festival and not Eid to avoid the backlash they would’ve faced for saying it on Eid.

That’s my point.. It’s good they r talking about cow protection.. And why just cow, they should rather talk about all the animals.
So let’s just wait for similar type of post for Eid !!!— Pratibha Sharma (@I_am_Pratibha) July 16, 2020
